Your Next Steps

1

Contact the hospice nurse, physician, medical examiner/coroner, or local sheriff to certify the death.

Know that there are people standing by to support you, your family, and community.

2

Call Larkspur Conservation at (615) 854-0010(615) 854-0010. We will guide you through each step that happens next in planning for a funeral and natural burial.

If you have not yet selected a funeral home, we can connect you with local resources who are ready to help.

3

Contact the funeral home you have selected, inform them of the death. The funeral home will organize transportation of the body.

When you talk to the funeral director, indicate to them that the deceased is going to have a natural burial (no embalming) at Larkspur Conservation.

Take A Moment to Breathe

Following a death, it can feel as if there are a thousand things to handle. They can wait. Try to take the time you need.

When someone dies their body does not need to be taken or moved right away. Let the hospital or hospice staff know, and they should give you the time and space you need. You can also ask the funeral home you choose to have a moment with the body at their facility.

Taking an opportunity to be with the body can be a profound moment in helping to process the grief you’re experiencing. Take the time you need, and be gentle with yourself.
