Feel The Difference
Many families choose cremation, but never experience the act of burial itself. Cremated remains often remain in an urn for years, stored away, waiting for a moment that never comes.
At Larkspur Conservation, we offer a gentle alternative: a guided ceremony where families can personally place cremated remains into the earth, creating space for remembrance, participation, and connection.

When Cremation Leaves Something Unfinished
For many families, cremation was the right choice.
Yet years later though, an urn still sits on a shelf, in a closet, or tucked away in storage.
Sometimes the remains were inherited from a parent or grandparent.
Sometimes there was never an opportunity to gather, grieve, or say goodbye in a meaningful way.
As cremation has become increasingly common many people discover that what they miss most is the chance to do something with their own hands to care for the person they love, participate in a ritual, and help lay them gently to rest.
Larkspur created this ceremony to offer families that opportunity. Because sometimes what we need most is not another place to keep our grief, but a place to lay it down.

Natural Burial Values – Even With Cremation
Larkspur is a Conservation Burial Ground—a protected green space dedicated to natural burial.
Our mission is to preserve and restore land across Tennessee through a revival of burial practices that heal the earth and offer sanctuary.
This cremated remains ceremony was developed from the same commitment.
We believe families should not have to choose between cremation and meaningful participation.
We believe burial can be both beautiful and ecologically responsible.
We believe that caring for people and caring for land are inseparable acts.

Gary’s Story
“We all knew the plan; cremation and releasing the ashes at one of his favorite vistas.
But then the reality set in, the ashes would do more harm to the beautiful habitat once they were released than he would ever want. As a steward of the land, as one who cared for trees and turned them into beautiful pieces of art, we began to wonder if there was something richer, more meaningful we could do to honor his life.
When we found Larkspur, we knew we had found the perfect place to honor my dad and celebrate his life. The Larkspur staff listened to the stories, held space for the grief that bubbled up, and helped us to reimagine how my dad’s cremated remains could serve not as a static memory of his life, but as a springboard for regeneration and growth for years to come.
No longer would my dad’s remains merely be scattered in a place that took much planning and expense to visit; Larkspur helped us to see that we could plant my dad among the trees he had loved.
Natural burial encompasses a space for our loved ones who have been cremated, interweaving them into an ecosystem of life, beauty, and the divine, transcendent cycle of regrowth. I am forever grateful for the place of planting that Larkspur provides.”
